Pickling is a pre-passivation process of treating stainless steel parts with an acid solution, typically hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, which can remove oxide scale and heat tint while dissolving steel flecks embedded in the part.

Pickling pastes contain a combination of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid which can cause serious burn injuries. They are primarily used to post weld clean stainless steels and can be applied by brush or by a spray on process.

Stain-O-Kleen 160 Gel Grade, Stainless Steel Pickling Gel is a unique, fast action, non-fuming, pickling gel to remove heat tint, weld discoloration, oxide scale and rust from all series of stainless steels. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel depends on the presence of an invisible protective chromium oxide surface. Operations such as welding, grinding or exposure to carbon can damage the passive protective layer. Pickling gel cleaning restores such protective layers.User friendly.
